International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications ICECOM 2023 Support
Abstract
The goal of this effort is to organize a 2023 edition of International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECom) in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It began in the mid-1970s as an annual meeting of the Society for Communications, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation and Control with the goal of presenting research and application contributions in the field of electrical engineering. In 1997, the name ICECom was introduced and the conference focused on high frequency electromagnetics and communications. Since that, there have been 10 editions of the ICECom conference. The 2022 edition was postponed to 2023 due to organizational and travel issues resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic. The ICECom conferences are organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb (FER) and KoREMA Society (Croatian Society for Communications, Computing, Electronics, Measurement and Control). The IEEE Region 8 and local chapters of the AP, MTT, AES, and GRS societies usually provide their support and technical co-sponsorship for the conferences. The University of Dubrovnik provides local support at the conference venue. Conference participants at former editions of ICECom came from all continents, both from academic institutions as well as from industry. The aim of ICECom is to enhance interaction between academic researchers and specialists from industry. Student participation is especially encouraged so that young researchers can gain experience presenting their work to an international audience. It is supported by reduced registration fees and accommodation in a student dormitory at the conference location. The ICECom 2023 conference topics belong to all areas of electromagnetics and communications. They range from antenna theory and techniques, active and smart antennas, phased arrays, electromagnetic fields and waves, microwave devices and circuits, metamaterials, nanotechnology, terahertz technology, light-wave technology and fiber optics, computational and numerical techniques in electromagnetics, radar, and remote sensing up to ultra-wideband systems, indoor and outdoor propagation modeling, mobile and personal communication systems, MIMO systems, EMC, and EMI. ICECom 2023 list of topics is compatible with the AFOSR electromagnetics portfolio. In addition, EOARD has already supported ICECom in the past (2005 and 2007 editions). Finally, the researchers at FER have a long history of collaboration with EOARD (they have conducted about 10 EOARD-supported projects in the last decade). Based on all these facts, we decided to apply for EOARD support for ICECom 2023, in the amount of 30 percent of the overall cost.
