Organization of VII Directionally Solidified Eutectics Conference, DSEC VII

Abstract

The seventh installment of DSEC will be held in person from May 23 to May 26, 2023, in İstanbul, Turkey. Since the first DSEC meeting, held in Paris in 2003, the DSEC Conferences have brought together top scientists whose research focuses on eutectic systems every three years. In that sense, the İstanbul meeting will address a wide range of topics that span fundamental to applied science, including (i) interfacial characterization; (ii) rapid solidification; (iii) multivariant reactions and pathways; (iv) theory, simulation, and modeling; (v) structural and functional properties; and (vi) applications to industry. The conference will include programming on not only metal alloys but also a broad range of ceramic, semi-metallic, and organic eutectic systems. Given the comprehensive program, DSEC VII is an excellent platform for researchers and specialists from universities, research institutions, and industry, as well as motivated students, to present their recent findings on eutectics science and technology, to exchange knowledge, to share new ideas, and also to extend cooperation in the field of the theory and applications of eutectic systems. In particular, we hope that the geographical proximity of İstanbul to Asia and Africa will motivate the participation of historically underrepresented scholars from those regions. This year, for the first time in the Directionally Solidified Eutectics Conference series, an outreach activity for K12 students has also been planned.
