International Summer School on Extreme Nonlinear Optics in Solids at University College Cork

Abstract

The propagation of electromagnetic radiation is limited by nonlinearity and random scattering in the surrounding media. Therefore, capabilities such as imaging, surveillance, vehicle guidance, countermeasures or directed energy are limited by basic understanding of the physics and mathematics of wave and pulse propagation in complex nonlinear media. The emergence of this field of extreme nonlinear optics over the past decade has also spun off already a rich variety of new applications in military and commercial spheres.
