Study of Solid State Pulsed Power Techniques for Generating Nanosecond Pulses with GW Peak Power, Subnanosecond Rise Time, and High Repetition Rate (PicoGiga)

Abstract

Directed energy applications require high-voltage pulses with GW peak power and sub-ns rise times. High pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and long lifetime are often desirable. A pulsed power system based on Semiconductor Opening Switch (SOS) diodes meets these demanding requirements. Having kA switching current and MV withstand voltage, SOS diodes are unique switches, generating ns pulses with GW peak power and kHz PRF.
