Abstract
The unique purely electrostatic Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment (DESIREE) facility allows for studies of interactions between cations and anions at low and well-defined internal temperatures and centre-of-mass collision energies down to about 20 K and 40 meV, respectively. Control over the reaction conditions, e.g. collision energy (0.04 eV to 10s eV) means that desired information such as fragment populations, can be obtained over all conditions needed to accurately model plasmas where these processes are important. This proposal highlights how this facility, which is the only one of its kind currently in the world, can play a crucial role in studying neutralising reactions relevant to- 1) Air-plasmas related to both laser-ignition and plasma-assisted combustion and 2)Plasmas generated from chemi-ionization cloud seeding.
