Modular Antennas for Small Satellites

Abstract

University of New Mexico Grant #: FA9453-15-1-0300 “Modular Antennas for Small Satellites” Abstract The scope of this work is to develop new concepts of “modular sensors” for small satellites. Various sensors, such as antennas, for small satellites need to be packed during the launch phase and then deploy once in space. Going to a modular sensor approach will lead to an easier and faster interface with almost any satellite design. The sensor module can be tweaked or adjusted on demand to fit the appropriate satellite functionality. The modular sensor/antenna approach will allow for a wider range of applications such as adaptive beam steering, remote sensing, radar, surveillance, and communications with other satellites or communication with a ground station.
