High Power Recirculating Planar Amplifiers

Abstract

The goal of this research program is to develop a crossed-field amplifier capable of operation at extremely high power levels of 10s to 100s of MW. The basis of the device will be the highly successful Recirculating Planar Magnetron (RPM), which was invented at the University of Michigan and recently generated 140 MW at 40% efficiency.
