An observational and modelling study of upwelling in the auroral thermosphere

Abstract

The aim of the project is to investigate the mechanism causing upwelling of the atmosphere in the polar regions. a) to run optical observations of the upper thermosphere and co-located radar observations of the ionosphere in the region of the auroral oval sites b) to compare the auroral region observations with existing polar cap observations c) to model the observations in order to understand what mechanism(s) drives upwelling in the auroral thermosphere
