Next-Generation X-Ray Lightsource and First Applications

Abstract

The proposal lays out a research plan to study the generation of x-rays via synchrotron emission by a laser-wakefield-driven relativistic electron beam propagating through a periodic magnetic structure (undulator). If successful, the expected results are: (1) the first demonstration of a laser-wakefield driven undulator radiation in the keV spectral region, (2) the use of this source to image nano-sized objects and (3) the first time-resolved experiments of atomic dynamics using this source.
