Discovering the Extent of Estimable Prediction in Science and Technology

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to build a mathematical foundation for S&T prediction by (1) building a family of flexible models that incorporate hypothesized processes in the emergence and development of S&T, then (2) exploiting rich features of S&T artifacts that reveal novel, foundational processes of S&T and, finally, (3) using these models and features to test the limits of predicting important discoveries and technologies and the times and places in which they emerge, in a certain lab, a discrete subfield or a particular country.
