Performance-based Security for Encoding of Information Signals

Abstract

In this proposal, the PI plans to study secure source coding and channel coding in the presence of an adversary who may have additional side information about the source or channel. Compared to the traditional approaches that use information-theoretic concepts to formulate absolute secrecy or privacy, the proposed investigation is much more realistic and may offer insights into the design of a partially secure communication system. Past work assumed the users to have infinite resource to send secure messages and did not provide ways to construct secure code with achievable rate of secrecy.
