Emittance Studies of Novel Cathodes

Abstract

This proposal describes a student-centered, three-year research plan to advance the fundamental understanding of how surface properties of field emitter cathodes correlate to beam quality. This research is expected to advance the fundamental understanding of aligned-and-spun single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) fiber cathodes as field emission sources for small-diameter, highcurrent-density, high-quality electron beams for vacuum electronic devices.
