Coherent, Efficient and Practical Polariton Lasers Using a Designable Cavity

Abstract

Polariton lasers are a new class of semiconductor laser that allow orders of magnitude improvement in the lasing energy threshold and the speed at which the laser can be modulated with application to highly efficient remote sensing and directed energy applications as well as insights into quantum and optical computing. This effort looks to clarify the main mechanism affecting the coherence and threshold polariton condensation, which are critical issues on the effectivenss of producing polariton laser light and the resulting quality of that light, and transfer these insights into a magnetic-field free, high temperature polariton laser system. These last features are critical for any potential DOD use.
