Extremely High Quantum Efficiency and High Purity Rare-Earth-Doped Crystals for Solid-State Laser Cooling: Material Synthesis and Characterization

Abstract

By far the most important challenge of high power lasers is the insufficient cooling and associated challenges of low power degradation of the power output. The overarching objective of the proposed research is laser cooling of air-borne and space-borne sensors and electronics that cannot be cooled any othey way.
