Cyber-Physical Systems Specification Mismatch and Safe Upgrades

Abstract

An issue that the AF faces is legacy system integration with novel systems. A Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is sometimes referred to as an embedded system, but the two are not exactly the same; a CPS focuses on the systems aspect of the computational elements controlling physical entities (such as flight vehicles) whereas embedded systems focuses on the computational elements themselves, vice the linkage. The AF s mission is bounded by the abilities of its CPS. The objective of this research is to identify novel methods in order to ensure CPS meets design and mission requirements regardless of the impediments (design defects, bugs, attacks, failures, etc.).
