SILK: RECONSTITUTION AND NOVEL 3D COMPOSITE
Abstract
This proposal sets out to examine 2 key aspects of silk. In the first Objective, molecular interactions, it aims to examine silk reconstitution with the view of invoking the aquamelt concept to produce high quality RSF (Reconstituted Silk Fibroin). In the second objective-basis for mineral deposition, it aims to make a tough dentin based silk composite bio-inspired by elephant ivory, they have already measured the compressive modulus of ivory dentine which is 8-18 GPa which is high for these materials.
