Facility for Real-Time Flow Estimation and Control

Abstract

The objective for the requested funding is to create an integrated facility for real-time estimation and control, centered around windtunnel-based flow measurement and prediction based on time-resolved particle-image velocimetry, a computing cluster, and a captive-trajectory model positioning system. This integrated system will harness improvements in computer processor speed to extend estimation and data assimilation methods used to predict, tame, and manage complex, separated and turbulent fluid flows associated with natural and engineered flight across a range of scales.
