Novel Materials for Transverse Peltier Refrigeration

Abstract

This study will explore materials that function as p x n transverse thermoelectrics, a novel paradigm for Peltier cooling discovered theoretically by the PI, whereby an electrical current in a narrow-gap semiconductor drives a purely transverse heat flow. These proposed new materials promise to deliver integrated Peltier cooling and thermoelectric cooling at arbitrarily low temperatures.
