Study of Turbulent Flows using Vectored Momentum and Energy Addition

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how small amounts of directed momentum and energy impact the global behavior of boundary layer flow. The major objectives are: (1) to identify the mechanism through which hairpin and lambda vortices can be generated for controlling the most sensitive modes of a given flow and (2) to tune the horseshoe actuators to amplify or dampen those modes to optimally control the turbulent flow.
