Band Engineering New Phases of Matter with Ultracold Atoms

Abstract

The objective is to theoretically pursue the identification of novel states of matter with ultracold atomic gases derived from band engineering of direct importance to ongoing Air Force research efforts to build such experiments. Novel quantum states that will be studied include: Wigner crystals, emergent Fermi surfaces, quasicrystals, frustrated Bose-Einstein condensates, and topological superconductors.
