Theory and techniques for modeling and control of turbulent shear flows

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develop new methods for skin-friction drag reduction in turbulent wall-bounded shear flows. the PI proposes to model the effect of nonlinearity by introducing an additive stochastic forcing to the Navier-Stokes equations linearized around a turbulent mean velocity. The PI will design spatially localized feedback flow controllers, thereby facilitating real-time implementation of miniature transducers for flow actuation using only information from nearby sensors.
