Phase II: Design and Assessment of Multifunctional Coatings for Ablation and Emissivity Performance

Abstract

The significance of this research is related to the significant reduction of heat loads and it may be possible to reduce oxidation rates and/or retain the mechanical integrity. If the concept succeed the reduction of heat loads will enable us DOD vehicles be significantly reduce the parasitic load related to the thermal protection systems and increase the efficiency of the vehicles, lower burn rate due to weight reduction.
