Progressing Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) and Faraday Rotation (FR) Studies for Space Weather Science and Operations (PIFSWSO)
Abstract
To perform collaborative scientific research around radio-astronomy techniques and modelling (data analyses, 3-D reconstructions, and MHD modelling) to investigate solar-wind and CME structures throughout the inner heliosphere in order to improve on methods for space-weather forecasting. This objective will be broken down to include: coordinated collaborative research; validation of observations of interplanetary scintillation (IPS) and their use in driving the solar-wind/space-weather forecasting model ENLIL against the traditional WSA ENLIL; investigations into specific CME signatures seen in IPS analyses; analyses and development of heliospheric Faraday rotation (FR) observations; and a workshop specifically tailored to bring world-class scientists together to study the Bz problem.
