Does Technological Surveillance Change Behavior?

Abstract

Part of a broader proposed program aimed at studying the utility of modern psychology, neuroscience and behavioral economics for military operations, this proposal details the central DPhil project investigating the effect of surveillance on behavior. The research aims to identify: 1. If technical surveillance changes behavior. 2. Why any behavioral change occurs, principally whether it is: a. A pre-conscious effect and what neurological/cognitive process causes it; b. Gender, age, ethnicity, culture or personality-type dependent. The research will also explore the moral and ethical implications of the findings.
