THERMOCHEMISTRY, REACTIVITY, AND DYNAMICS OF METALS ENGAGED IN CHEMIIONIZATION

Abstract

This work will study the reactions of lanthanide atoms such as samarium and their oxides with atomic gases (O2, CO, CO2, NO, H2O) to acquire thermodynamic information needed to assess AF atmospheric release experiments. Quantitative bond energies of a variety of species will be obtained yielding a better fundamental understanding of chemical and physical properties of the lanthanide species and how they react in the space environment.
