Chemistry with Microdroplets

Abstract

This research seeks to understand whether charged microdroplets can be used to accelerate chemical reactions of interest to the US Air Force. The mechanism of potential reaction acceleration will be investigated, particularly exploring whether the lack of full solvation at the droplet surface where charges accumulate results in acceleration of reaction rates. The mechanisms of catalysis in droplets will also be investigated by detecting reactive intermediates in microdroplets.
