Chemical Reactions of Cold Molecular Ions and Molecular Radicals

Abstract

Reactions between ultracold molecular ions and ultracold molecular radicals will be studied under conditions in which thermal effects are eliminated enabling new information to be obtained about the fundamental chemical physics and physical chemistry that underlie chemical interactions. These experiments will provide critical experimental benchmarks needed to anchor advanced theoretical treatments of molecular phenomena, particularly in the quantum regime. These studies incorporate transformative advances in the cooling, trapping, and detection of reactant and product radicals and ions, in broad bandwidth, super high resolution multiplexed spectroscopy, and in the use of global models of molecular spectra.
