Harnessing Strong-Field Mid-Infrared (IR) Lasers: Designer Beams of Relativistic Particles and THz-to-X-ray Light

Abstract

The objective of this MURI is to broadly explore fundamental strong-field interactions driven by intense laser architectures operating in the mid-infrared (e.g. 1.5 - 5 microns). The broad exploration of long wavelength strong-field effects represents transformative science with applications to many fundamental, inherently multidisciplinary, areas of atomic, molecular and optical physics. This MURI brings together world leaders in mid-IR lasers, laser-based acceleration, high harmonic sources, and filamentation.
