Representing and Transforming Sensory Stimuli using Spike Trains

Abstract

The main focus of the proposal is to understand and develop a hardware implementation of a functional (basic requirement of a unique output for each input) that maps the spatio-temporal visual input signal to a spike train. Following such development the PI will develop a model that mimics every possible electrical event that takes place starting in the compound eye of the fly through the 3rd neuropil where the H1 neuron resides in order to create hardware implementation of a functional mapping. Additionally, the PI will identify subsets of functionals as causal, time invariant and bounded memory.
