Distributed Shape and Property Measurements of Adaptive Modular Structures

Abstract

The goal of this proposal is to create an experimental platform at the University of Michigan (U-M) for research advancements in the fundamental understanding and development of modular structures that simultaneously adapt shape and properties. By strategically integrating with existing lab equipment, the instrumentation requested via this DURIP opportunity will realize the setup of this unique experimental platform. The integrated system will fuel the current AFOSR-sponsored project for further advances, provide an opportunity to generate a new research vision of broad DoD importance, and enhance research-related education by training students and creating rich thesis topics in areas that are essential to DoD mission objectives.
