MECHANISMS FOR SPATIOTEMPORAL VISUAL FEATURE DETECTION IN INSECTS

Abstract

to address the mechanisms that enable flies to distinguish objects embedded in a complex moving scene. To understand the subsequent processing involved in transforming detection and spatial localization of figures and or boundaries into signals useful for motor control. To increase understanding of the neural processing behind the physiological features of STMD neurons. The ultimate goal is to bring the understanding of small target detection to a level comparable to that for wide-field visual motion detection in these animals.
