Nonequilibrium Kinetics in High-Enthalpy Air

Abstract

The overall goal of the proposed research is to develop new, definitive models for high temperature air dissociation based on first-principles quantum chemistry calculations to replace empirical models of the thermochemical gas state next to a vehicle surface. Quantum chemical calculations will underlie the development of new potential energy surfaces which will be used to inform computational fluid dynamics calculations used to model the chemical reactions, heat release, and fluid flow of hot gas around high-speed vehicles.
