Regulatory Mechanisms of Radioresistance under Differential Levels of Ionizing Irradiation.

Abstract

The overarching goal of this project is to characterize the function and biological importance of their newly discovered riboswitch regulators, in the context of ionizing radiation- and chemically-induced oxidative stress. They propose to profile some of the most active candidates to investigate the new hypotheses that: (1) different mechanisms of oxidative stress management are triggered by different levels of radiation, and (2) that these 5 UTR elements remain largely functional during oxidative stress to control transporters that are critical in initially boosting antioxidants while decreasing cellular toxins.
