Broadband CARS System for Label-Free Imaging of Intracellular Dynamics

Abstract

Objective: The proposed effort is designed to support a new MURI for the Biophysics Portfolio, 3003P, by purchasing a broadband spectroscopic coherent Raman imaging system (BCARS) aimed at analyzing the internal rhythm of living systems. In this MURI, the Co-PIs and additional partners are analyzing the coupled electrical, biochemical, and biomechanical emissions and oscillations associated with cells and tissues. They expect that in depth understanding of how cells use internal “rhythms” to sense, transmit information, and move, will lead to the discovery of novel ways to control or augment cell behaviors with fast electromagnetic fields.
