Ultrafast Laser Equipment for Investigation of Excited State Dynamics in Semiconductor Nanocrystals

Abstract

This proposal is for the acquisition of a two pieces of ultrafast laser equipment that will permit better elucidation of excited state relaxation in various nanocrystalline systems, particularly the recently discovered diffusive motion of holes trapped on the surfaces of CdS nanocrystals. The new instrumentation will permit monitoring of near-infrared transient absorption and will allow the study of diffusive trapped hole motion in a variety of nanocrystalline structures, and determine its impact on recombination dynamics and charge transfer and transport.
