System for Telecom-Wavelength Raman Spectroscopy: Towards Laser-Cooling of Silicon

Abstract

The objective of this DURIP proposal is equipment to advance the state of the art in optical cooling. Traditional techniques rely on a particular interaction in rare-earth materials to provide optical cooling. This proposal looks to extend optical cooling to additional materials that support directed energy, cooling of electronic materials, and cooling of electro-optical sensors.
