Ultrafast States Of Matter: Dynamics Of Material Response From Non-Fermi Distributed Electrons To Residence In The Vapor Dome

Abstract

The overarching objective of the proposed word is to understand the physics of material modification after strong fields and pulse absorption. The proposal aims to study the ultrafast laser dynamics in metals and non-metals during conditions in which the materials are changing phase due to the energy of the absorbed laser pulse. The work will study the processes in which an excited material relaxes back to thermodynamic equilibrium, and the role that this excitation process has on the final state of the final structural state of the material.
