Electride Thermionic Emitters For Propulsion Applications

Abstract

The objective of this project is to design, fabricate, develop and characterize oxide cathode material, 12CaO x 7Al2O3 (C12A7) that will have low work function and could withstand extreme environments combined fields of electric, thermal, and activity (compositional) gradients. This objective requires that the oxide material has very high electrical conductivity, and high electron emitting characteristic which is amenable for the high power lasers, and microwave applications including but are not limited to highly corrosive environments.
