Developing Methods of Control of Self-Organized Plasma Structures in Devices Relevant to Electric Propulsion

Abstract

The main objective is to understand, predict and control instabilities in magnetized plasma environments. Two main goals of the proposed effort are 1) to generate experimental data which will be used for validation of 2D and 3D PIC simulations of coherent structures, related plasma instabilities and electron transport at micro and macro scales in realistic 3-D plasma systems with nonuniform magnetic field and plasma flow, and 2) to develop methods of control, excitation, and suppression of coherent plasma structures in these plasma systems.
