Understand the Chiral Selectivity of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube growth by in situ optical imaging of individual and identified carbon nanotubes

Abstract

Directly image the growth of individual SWCNTs in real CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) conditions to determine kinetics of nucleation, growth, and termination of each SWCNT. Coupling this with an identification of the structure of each SWCNT should help determine the mechanisms which underly selectivity for type of tubes given a catalyst and synthesis. Secondarily, use this information to design catalysts and synthesis conditions with high selectivity for specific types of tubes to aid in manufacturing.
