Multi-receiver Uncoordinated Medium Access Ccontrol
Abstract
Multi-receiver random access schemes find natural application in several scenarios relevance, ranging from satellite to terrestrial networks. The main idea that underpins these approaches is to have a set of receivers, or relays, that collect data transmitted in an uncoordinated and unpredictable fashion by ground users over a shared channel, later to forward gathered information to a central unit or gateway. While some recent studies have shown that the availability of disjoint relays can indeed trigger strong performance improvements over the classical single receiver architecture in terms of end-to-end throughput, the true potential of the paradigm is yet elusive. By developing novel analytical tools, research carried out in the project will provide a deeper understanding of the performance limit and key design tradeoffs of multi-receiver random access schemes, shedding light on their applicability to practical scenarios.
