Structure and Modeling of Hypersonic Boundary Layers in Transitional and Turbulent Regimes

Abstract

This research program will use (spatially developing) direct numerical simulations toclarify these issues. The simulations will make use of a newly developed DNS code that hasbeen optimized for canonical geometries. We propose to concurrently conduct Reynoldsaveraged (RANS) and wall-modeled large eddy simulations (WMLES) of the DNS cong-urations in order to achieve a more rapid understanding of the turbulence modeling issues.
