(DURIP) GHz & THz photonics testbed instrumentation

Abstract

Photonics provides not only a light weight / low loss transmission medium, but also large instantaneous bandwidth and EMI immunity. The UMassD RF photonic group conducts research on high-performance RF frontend. The laboratory’s measurement capabilities have deficiency in instantaneous signal analysis bandwidth, frequency range, and sensitivity that hinder the DoD-sponsored research activities. To address these limitations, we request funding support for the procurement of a state-of-the-art signal analyzer and a millimeter wave frequency extender module. Coupled to existing lab equipment, a RF photonics testbed covering a signal spectrum range from 10Hz to 1.1THz will be established.
