Laser system for entangled-state generation in large atomic ensembles for measurements below the standard quantum limit

Abstract

A major scientific frontier is the creation and control of non-classical many-body states. Suchcontrol will enable novel quantum devices and improve precision measurements beyond thestandard quantum limit (SQL). We request a laser system to upgrade existing experiments supported by MURI grants from AFOSR and ARO, and the Quasar program supported by DARPA. By combining concepts developed under these grants, we will realize superatom cavity QED, the combination of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) and Rydberg physics to implement a hitherto inaccessible regime of ultrastrong coupling in ensemble cavity QED.
