Acquisition of Low Load Acquisition of a Low-Load Mechanical Testing Platform with a Non-Contact Extensometer for Studying Deformation Mechanisms in Fibers, Foams and Nanocomposites
Abstract
The mechanical testing instrument has excellent control. It features a resolution with 6 mN minimumcontrollable peak-to-peak force and 1.5 ?m minimum controllable peak-to-peak displacement. It is ideal for microscale mechanical characterization of low-dimensional materials used to reinforce composites, such as nanofibers, platelets, and graphene foam. Included is a non-contact digital video extensometer for strain measurement. This instrument will specifically enhance the capabilities to understand the science of nanofibers and other reinforcements that are being studied by PI and Co-PI with the support from the DoD.
