IWSHM - Material State Awareness and Real-Time Data-Driven Safety Assurance
Abstract
This proposal is to request funding from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) tosponsor the organization of the International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring to be heldat Stanford University, Sept. 12-14, 2017. Structural health monitoring is an emerging technology, which integrates advanced sensing technology with diagnostics, prognostics, and knowledge ofmaterial/structural damage characteristics to estimate the health status of the structures, while inservice, to prevent structural catastrophes, minimize downtime and sustain performance, andreduce maintenance cost. The concept of digital twin will also be discussed. It is particularlyimportant and attractive for sustaining the combat readiness and performance of the Air force forboth existing and new aircraft, rotorcraft, ships, and underwater vehicles.
