Workshop on Dynamic, Control and Numerics for Fractional Partial Differential Equations

Abstract

The three-day international workshop on fractional dierential equations, bothlinear and nonlinear, will concentrate on the following aspects: dynamics, control andnumerics. The dynamical part includes well-posedness and the asymptotic behaviorof the solutions of the relevant equations. Well-posedness is taken in its classicalmeaning, that is, existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of solutions on thedata of the problem. Control theoretic issues such as controllability and stabilisationwill be addressed. It is by now known that for fractional order equations, the bestthat can be achieved in this respect is approximate controllability. Numerical aspectsare extremely important since the main goal is to address problems that arise in reallife problems, particularly those related to national defense. The availability of highperformance computing facilities make this a most interesting theme of investigation. In the course of the three days, about 23 talks will be delivered on the abovetopics. The conference participants are divided into Keynote Speakers (8), InvitedSpeakers (8), Invited Program Ocers (5), Professors across universities on the Is-land of Puerto Rico and Graduate Students from the Mainland USA and the Islandof Puerto Rico. We are estimating a total number of 35 participants. Of great im-portance will be discussions on open problems and perspectives for future research. The topics covered are important to national security. Strengthening researchat the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, is among the goals, includingthe training of Graduate Students in the above areas.
