Directionally-Solidified Spiral Eutectics: Towards Chiral Metamaterials by Design

Abstract

The proposed research project answers the following questions for spiral eutectics engineering:What are the thermo-physical driving forces for spiral formation? Is crystalline anisotropy apre-condition for spiral growth? Moreover, for the spiral eutectics to be used as electromagneticmetamaterials, it is necessary for the lamellar spacing to be less than the wavelength ofelectromagnetic radiation.
