Air Force Science and Technology 2030
Abstract
The Air Force Science and Technology 2030 workshop (SecAF 2030 S&T Study), held at the University of Nebraska’s (NU) Nebraska Innovation Campus (NIC) Conference Center (https://innovate.unl.edu/nic-conference-center), will bring together local and regional expertise to offer ideas for innovation as part of the public engagement for the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) yearlong science and technology review. NU will host the workshop by taking the lead to coordinate and provide logistics and infrastructure. In addition to technical experts and professional facilitators provided by the Air Force, NU will assist AFRL in identifying and suggesting technical expertise across its campus to facilitate high-level workshop discussion around strategic research areas.The objectives of the workshop are to:(1) Bring together academic and industry leaders and experts from the North Central Region to discuss the challenges of and offer ideas to meet the needs of AFRL’s research agenda.(2) Provide a platform for increased communication between the Air Force and the American public to aid in the development of new innovative ideas.(3) Increase the transfer of information from basic research to applicable technologies and practices.Aligned with AFRL’s basic research program, the workshop’s key focus areas will include discussions of emerging and technologies related to Cyber/Digital Offense and Defense, Sensing Technologies and Interpreting Data, Global Logistics, and Human Advantage. NU and AFRL anticipate 250 to 300 researchers and industry leaders will participate in the workshop on March 22 and 23, 2018 and the expected outcome and impact is to be a high-level sharing of technical ideas and expertise to inform the AF research agenda moving forward.
