Machines, Algorithms and Data Lab (MADLab): A University Center of Excellence in Efficient and Robust Machine Learning
Abstract
This proposal responds to the call for a University Center of Excellence (UCoE) devoted toEfficient and Robust Machine Learning (ERML). It harnesses the collective talent of eight world renowned machine learning researchers, balanced in their expertise and interests across the span of ERML. The members of this team have made many significant contributions to machine learning,both individually and collaboratively. We now come together with the goal of establishing a newUCoE called the Machines, Algorithms and Data Lab (MADLab) at UW-Madison. Workingthrough the MADLab and building on our past work, we will join forces to develop a deeperunderstanding of fundamental issues in ERML, with the goal of developing of new ML technologytailored to AF/DoD needs and applications as well as the training of the next generation of MLresearchers and practitioners.
